| Description: | This textile begins with the creation of a spot of the neighbourhood that sets the stage. Then, step by step, and in permanent dialogue with the arpillera, the actors are created: the evicted people, the supportive neighbourhood, the police, Carles, Enric... and as they appear, they come to life and move freely around the square until the time comes to stand still. You can see snapshot here.
On my way to the Ateneu Sant Roc, a few times I came across a concentration of people with banners from “Plataforma Sant Roc som Badalona”, look what a curious name! Everything indicates that we are in an alert situation: someone is becoming homeless. Carles and Enric are walking up and down the street, negotiating with the owners, with the judicial authorities, mediators, state security forces... perhaps there is hope that the situation will reverse.
Faced with this fact, I imagine firsthand how one can live with the insecurity of provisionality… Will they kick me out of the house today? Maybe in two months? Where am I supposed to go? Will the children go to school tomorrow? And the day after tomorrow? What a stressful situation!
My arpillera wants to invite us to empathize with the protagonists, to pay a tribute to the members of “Plataforma Sant Roc som Badalona”, who work tirelessly on a daily basis, and also, a point of attention to those who have the obligation to ensure education, health and housing, which guarantee good coexistence and the development of a peaceful society. |
