Exhibition and associated activities:Aftershocks: The sensory afterlives of violence
Description: 'Aftershocks: The sensory afterlives of violence' in collaboration with the International Conflict Research Institute (INCORE), is being hosted by Ulster University and it is scheduled to take place at the York Street campus building from 13th April - 13th May 2026. An opening event will take place on 23rd April 2026 at 5pm.

The academic and creative outputs showcased in Aftershocks reflect the multi- sensory approach of the networking project, demonstrating how cultural representations can be used to explore conflict-related trauma. The installations explore how and when past events emerge in our consciousness and the role of cultural creativity in enabling their representation. In effect, these innovative pieces are powerful forms of exploratory sense-making in the wake of violence and loss.

Curator Roberta Bacic has specially curated for this exhibition 7 textiles from the Conflict Textiles collection.

To accompany the exhibition on May 6th from 2 to 4PM, Roisín Higgins will be in conversation with Élise Féron, Lisa Fitzpatrick and Adrian Grant who will discuss their work and its relationship to embodied memories of conflict. This will take place on 6 May, UU 2pm-4pm, in BA00 0035.
